A large boat, calm waters and distant islands creating a peaceful reminder to slow down, travel lighter, and embrace life's simpler moments.

Relax

"Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax."

Mark Black

I'm writing this from the deck of a very large boat, the Meg Anne III. She is magnificent! My brother’s brainchild after becoming nostalgic about the days of our youth, when Doreen & Mic (aka Mom and Dad) would pack us up on our much smaller boat to cruise the San Juan Islands on our summer family vacations.

This time, it’s just the Heffron sibs. My brother and sister, their spouses, and me the fifth wheel. We're somewhere between Anacortes and Point Roberts, our first stop along the multiport journey.

My brother wrote in our group text. “...pack as light as you can be comfortable for seven days, not a sh#t-ton of space for suitcases, sweats are acceptable attire for most cruising situations, you can get fancy in port…”

What? Does he not remember growing up with me? When have I ever packed light?

But, as with everything else I’ve tried to incorporate into life this past year, I have done my best to pack light, as suggested, and to let go of the things I really don’t need to take along on the boat (or in life).

In the spirit of practicing what I teach, I took this week off to rest, rejuvenate, eat as much fresh crab as I can, and enjoy the simpler things in life. No calls, no calendar reminders, no laptop open on the dining room table. Just the sea, good wine, and siblings who still make me laugh and can also drive me nuts on occasion. It’s all in love, and I’m grateful to have this beautiful opportunity and time away.

I'll be back next week with more to say about all of it. For now, consider this your permission slip, too. Take the walk. Skip the errand. Let the phone sit face down for an hour. It doesn't have to be a boat in the San Juans. It just has to be yours.

See you next week.

Love and Light,
